Tucked away in the beating heart of Macedonia, Popov Winery has become one of the Balkans’ most acclaimed producers. Based in the historic Tikvesh region, this family-run estate has, since 2001, combined state-of-the-art winemaking with an unwavering commitment to quality. The result? A range of beautifully crafted wines whose reputation now reaches far beyond the country’s borders.

We were truly impressed by this Cabernet Franc, which captures all the vibrant energy and expressive fruit of the grape. A standout bottle that’s not to be missed — awarded 94/100.

The 2023 Vrshnik Cabernet Franc Red offers a remarkably clear expression of the grape’s identity, with delicate hints of graphite wrapped in pure, refined fruit, highlighted by notes of blackcurrant. Its structure is elegant, precise, and beautifully nuanced—showcasing a level of finesse that rivals some of the finest examples from the Loire Valley. A true favourite of the Selection Committee, rated 94/100.
