Our committee's review
In the heart of Provence, Château Simone, awarded two stars by the RVF Guide (Revue du Vin de France), stands as an exceptional estate and one of the region’s elite producers. Frequently recognized as the greatest white wine of the Mediterranean, it embodies a style that is refined, profound, and unparalleled in complexity for Provence. Its red wine is equally remarkable, reflecting the bold and generous spirit of its terroir.
Today, Château Simone is unquestionably the most renowned and sought-after cru of Provence. Free from modern technical intervention, it continues to craft terroir-driven wines that are vibrant, precise, and evocative of the many aromas of the South. These wines offer sublime versatility for a wide range of gastronomic pairings, making them a true treasure for connoisseurs.
The single-vineyard cuvée “Grands Carmes”, aged in small oak foudres, pays tribute to the monks who once lived in this historic bastide. Explore its latest vintages, available exclusively to our members.
The 2022 Les Grands Carmes Rosé (IGP Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône) is a gastronomic rosé built for longevity, a rarity in its category. Its deep, vibrant color immediately sets it apart, followed by an aromatic nose of cherry, raspberry, crushed strawberry, and spices, complemented by a subtle, natural touch of oak. The palate is broad and balanced, with both intensity and elegance. Ideal for pairing with lobster or white meat, this exceptional rosé earned a top distinction from the Selection Committee.
A true expression of Mediterranean terroir, the 2021 Red IGP Bouches-du-Rhône Les Grands Carmes once again proves its excellence in this vintage. Sourced from vines over 50 years old, rooted in limestone scree slopes, and aged in wood for nearly two years, it offers a powerful, intense structure with firm tannins and notes of dried herbs and bay leaf. Give it another two years to soften, then enjoy it with slow-cooked lamb shoulder.
Driven by top-quality Clairette, the 2023 Les Grands Carmes White (IGP Pays des Bouches-du-Rhône) opens with notes of almond and dried fruit, accented by acacia blossom and a subtle, toasty reduction that adds real charm. The palate continues in the same vein, built on a mineral core with generous texture and depth—entirely unmasked by winemaking tricks. This is a complex, persistent wine, carried by fine, lingering bitterness that adds tension and length.
The most renowned and sought-after cru in Provence among wine enthusiasts.
