Grand Vin de Château Latour - Pauillac - Rouge 2004

Wine:

Château Latour 2004 belongs to the Mount Olympus of wine. This giant of the wine-growing world has an abundance of sap and is of a rare elegance.

Vinification:

The harvest is de-stalked and crushed, then transferred into stainless steel fermention tanks. The vatting period can last up to three weeks. After the running off, during which the free run wine is separated from the "marc", the wine is returned to vat to undergo a second, "malolactic" fermentation. Each wine is then blended in tanks, following which it is laid down in barrels in around December time. The wine then starts its aging that will last for nearly 18 months.

Lovely, intense, crimson colour.

Nose:

Incredible and subtle on the nose, slightly smoky aromas of blackcurrants and raspberries

Palate:

Dense on the palate, one of the longestMedoc wines. Superb, soft and fruity on entry. The wine is concentrated and full. Powerful, aromatic and juicy finish. Exceptional!

Temperature:

Serve between 16 and 18°C. Decant 1 hour before drinking. Store in the cellar, at a stable temperature between 10 and 15°C.

The estate's history dates back to the 14th Century. Latour de Saint Maubert was in fact built during this century. Having belonged to English shareholders, Château Latour returned to French ownership in 1993 when it was purchased by François Pinault. Located in the famous Medoc region, in the town of Pauillac to be more precise, the vineyards cover 78 hectares, of which only 47, known as the "Enclos", are devoted to the production of the Château's first wine. Its clay soil made up of ancient "graves" combine with geographical and climatic features to produce the typical characteristics of the Medoc "grands crus". This terroir, unique of its kind, is located 300 metres from the Gironde River and gains full benefit from this location.
