The estate and the wine |

Les Carmes Haut-Brion stands apart in the Bordeaux landscape—a true outlier, an original.
And while its urban vineyard setting and avant-garde winery are often talked about, the real story lies in the philosophy behind the wine: the methodology, and above all, the mindset that drives it. These are what truly set this estate apart. Since its change of ownership in 2010, the estate has been under the guidance of Guillaume Pouthiers, an inspired and visionary winemaker who has infused Les Carmes with fresh energy. And clearly, it’s working—the trajectory has been nothing short of remarkable.
At the heart of it all is a deep sensitivity to place, which has guided thoughtful decisions in the vineyard—most notably, a high proportion of Cabernet Franc, rarely seen in such prominence in Bordeaux. The estate practices biodynamic viticulture, with an exceptional level of care given to the vines. In the cellar, whole-cluster fermentation plays a central role—a near-revolutionary approach in Bordeaux.
This is a wine for true aesthetes—a pinnacle of the region, and a testament to what bold vision and deep respect for terroir can achieve. |
