Jacky Barthelmé and his son Antoine—who now leads the estate—have a masterful touch with both whites and reds. The great terroirs of Alsace resonate with new energy here, giving rise to wines of singular identity and striking emotional power. The estate’s rise reached a milestone recently with Alsace’s first-ever 100-point Parker score—for its Pinot Noir. And the rest of the range more than holds its own.

A rare gem from the estate, the 2023 Alsace Pinot Noir Clos de la Faille Monopole Red rivals Burgundy’s finest benchmarks. Grown on a monopole parcel planted in 1998, set on pink sandstone and limestone gravel soils, this Pinot comes from a site exclusively owned by the Barthelmé family. Crafted with 15% whole bunches in a gentle, infusion-style fermentation, and matured in barrels with minimal new oak, it delivers a beautifully pure expression of the grape. Ripe fruit lends depth to aromas of fresh berries, stewed cherry, and floral notes. The palate is powerful yet refined, with remarkable texture, complexity, and energy. Fine tannins frame this high-precision wine, giving it structure and longevity. A perfect match for filet of beef or veal chop. A Selection Committee favorite—rated 95/100. |
