AWARDS

Robert Parker : 93/100
A Selection Committee Favorite rated 93+/100

Wine:

Rated 93/100 by the Parker Guide, this 2018 La Massa cuvée, which we have cherished for many years, is deserving of your full attention. This vintage reveals an aromatic spectrum of macerated dark fruits, exquisite wood, carboniferous and mineral notes, presenting both intensity and freshness. The structure is cohesive and full-bodied, boasting rather approachable, fine tannins. This beautifully balanced blend, dominated by Sangiovese, is enhanced by a touch of oak that adds texture to the wine. For the Committee, it's a standout favorite, scoring a 93+/100.

Vinification:

South-facing vines planted 360m above sea level in Panzano's "Conca d'Oro". Hand harvested. Aged in French oak barrels, 10% of which are new.

Color:

Bright dark red.

Nose:

On aeration, the aromatic profile focuses on macerated black fruits and notes of precious wood.

Palate:

Full-bodied and intense, the palate is balanced with delicate, coated tannins. Subtly woody ageing tightens the texture of this wine.

Temperature:

Serve between 14 and 16°C.

Food and wine pairing:

Roasted or grilled red meats, bistecca alla Fiorantina, osso bucco, stuffed tomatoes, Parmeggiano Reggiano shavings.

Cellar aging:

From now until 2027

Fattoria La Massa is the jewel of Giampaolo Motta who embarked on an improbable winemaking adventure in 1992. He honed his skills at highly esteemed estates in the heart of Chianti, such as Fontodi, Villa Cafaggio, and Castello dei Rampolla. By the late 90s, La Massa had garnered international acclaim. The estate's flagship wine, named Giorgio Primo, belongs to the exclusive and historic club of the most outstanding Tuscan wines, often referred to as 'Super Tuscans,' alongside names like Sassicaia, Ornellaia, and Cepparello. In recent vintages, Fattoria la Massa wines have been bottled as IGT, allowing them to always use the finest grapes from the estate without being bound to meet the Sangiovese quota.
